Over 13,590 people performed the Gabanguang Dance together in Yingjiang County, southwest China's Yunnan Province, to celebrate the annual Water-Sprinkling Festival from April 13-15, setting the new world record..

The Water-Sprinkling Festival is one of the main festivals of the Dai and De'ang people, marking their Lunar New Year. During the festival, people splash water on one another as a symbol of good luck and happiness.

The performance of the Gabanguang Dance is a well-known part of the traditional celebrations.

Tao Jiqing, Party secretary of Yingjiang County, gave a speech at the opening ceremony. He said the celebration aimed to carry forward ethnic culture and strengthen confidence, as well as enhance unity, friendship and development among various ethnic groups.

Furthermore, he hoped the event would encourage local people to lift themselves out of poverty and promote the construction of the "New Yingjiang".

Mike Vincent, a senior official from the World Record Association, granted the organizers with a certificate for the performance.
