The National Art Museum of Beijing held a calligraphy exhibition of work by farmers on September 28 on the theme "Greeting the 19th National Congress of the China Communist Party (CPC)".

The 150 paintings on display were made by villagers aged from eight to 85 living in Xigaozhuang Village, north China's Hebei Province.

The participants all study calligraphy at classes run locally.

Furthermore, the village has hosted another 20 classes in subjects such as painting, dancing and military music band.

Local groups played flute music, gave a catwalk show and demonstrated tai chi at the opening ceremony.
