The China-Central Asia Women's Forum was held in Nanning, capital city of Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on October 18, 2019.
With the theme of Develop the Belt and Road with Women's Strength, the women's forum was sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Good-neighborly and Friendly Cooperation Committee and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The forum was organized by the Women's Federation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

In her speech during the opening ceremony, Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, President of the ACWF and Chairperson of the SCO Good-neighborly and Friendly Cooperation Committee, pointed out that the traditional friendship between China and Central Asia and Outer Caucasus enjoyed a long history. In recent years, with the strategic guidance and promotion of Chinese President Xi Jinping and leaders of other countries, China's relations with Central Asia and Outer Caucasus have developed steadily, and the development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has achieved countless successes, Shen noted.
Shen reviewed the great changes of Chinese women's status in the past 70 years. She called on all countries to take the BRI as a main task to enhance dialogue and exchanges between women in various fields, including politics, economy, education, culture and science and technology.
Shen urged greater efforts in deepening exchanges and cooperation among women under multilateral mechanisms, including under the framework of the SCO, working together to promote equality between men and women and the all-round development of women, and giving full play of women's unique roles in building society and families. She also called on participants to the forum to promote exchanges among people from various countries, pass on the spirit of win-win cooperation from generation to generation, and enjoy peace and development together.
Zamirbek Askarov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, introduced women's development in his country. He expressed gratitude that the women's forum provided a new platform for women of all countries to strengthen exchanges and cooperation. Kyrgyzstan would support women to play a greater role in maintaining peace and stability, he added.
Vladimir Norov, Secretary-General of the SCO, spoke highly of the achievements made in Chinese women's development over the past 70 years. Norov said that women played an indispensable role in maintaining sustainable development and the progress of the BRI, adding that the SCO Secretariat was willing to provide resources to all women to achieve common development.
Wang Yuefei, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said that Guangxi represents an important gateway in promoting the BRI in Southwest China. He welcomed all guests to this autonomous region to share development opportunities and create together a promising future.

During the women's forum, several participants gave keynote speeches on "giving full play to the unique role of women in society and family," and they shared experiences in promoting women's development, safeguarding women's rights and interests and improving their livelihoods.
As an important component of the 7th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum, the women's forum was the first time when such a session organized under the framework of the China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum.
The Nanning Declaration, adopted at the 7th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum, highlighted the importance to enhance friendly exchanges, facilitate practical cooperation, advance the equality between men and women and women's all-round development with joint efforts, and further promote the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
More than 100 participants, including representatives from 13 countries in Central Asia, Outer Caucasus and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the countries' embassies in China, attended the women's forum. Female students from Central Asian and ASEAN countries, who were studying in Guangxi, as well as representatives from the women's federations of several provinces and autonomous regions also took part in the event.
Cui Li, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice-Chairperson of the SCO Good-neighborly and Friendly Cooperation Committee, and Li Hui, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs, leaders from related departments of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and of the SCO Good-neighborly and Friendly Cooperation Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the women's forum.
Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the ceremony.
Attendees of the forum also took a field trip to some programs concerning women and children's development in Nanning on October 19.
