Women's Federation in SW China Strives to Achieve Rights Protection

Anshun Women's Federation (AWF), in southwest China's Guizhou Province, has carried out much effective work in recent years regarding women and children's rights protection.

Under the leadership of the municipal Party committee and the government, together with the support of Guizhou Women's Federation and relevant departments, women's federations at all levels in Anshun have thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's keynote speeches, adhering to the basic State policy of gender equality.

They have also focused on the concept and mechanism of innovative rights protection work.

Last year, AWF won the honorary title of National Advanced Collective for Protecting Women and Children's Rights.

Furthermore, AWF has adopted various innovative communications methods such as spreading knowledge via newspapers, TV programs and other official new media publicity platforms, and extensively implementing communications activities in terms of legal rights protection including the law on women's rights and interests, marriage law, anti-domestic violence law and the protection of minors.

The federation has continued to broaden publicity and vigorously enhanced the legal awareness and rights awareness of women and children.

The AWF has also safeguarded women's land rights and their collective rural property rights, provide women with better living environment and mobilize them to fight against poverty.

Moreover, AWF has also enhanced communication and cooperation with local agricultural departments, promoted national policies and regulations among women and helped raise rural women's awareness of rights protection.

In response to some problems that impair the healthy growth of minors, women's federations at all levels in Anshun actively promoted the implementation of development planning, and worked with relevant departments on innovative rights protection work.

They also made efforts in strengthening tangible construction, education and guidance for minors.

In order to conscientiously implement the general requirements of reform, the women's federations of 90 townships and streets in the city have completed the regionalization of grassroots women's federations, and converted 1,149 women's congresses in villages and communities into women's federations.

The reform plans for eight county-level women's federations have also been issued and implemented.

After organizing and expanding, women's federations in Anshun has shifted their attention to style and service, promoting all work to achieving overall improvements in reform and innovation, and continuously making new progress in safeguarding women and children's rights.

In the next step, AWF will conscientiously implement the basic State policy of gender equality and safeguard the legal rights and interests of women and children mentioned in the report of the 19th CPC National Congress; continue to promote new breakthroughs and achievements in rights protection; jointly share the results of reform and development; and, make greater contributions to poverty alleviation and the achievement of amoderately prosperous society in all respects.
