Since 2017, Tianjin Women's Federation (TWF) has pushed for the establishment of a fair women's employment mechanism and corrected 12 gender-based discrimination cases involving 88 job posts of 42 departments up to now.
Tianjin officials wrote the prohibition of gender discrimination in employment into the city's regulations on protection of women's rights and interests and declared that relevant departments should pay attention to solving cases about gender discrimination and submitted the final results.
Meanwhile, TWF cooperated with the municipal human resources and social security bureau to set up a coordinated mechanism and devoted their efforts to protecting women's equal rights in finding employment.
Officials established an observation system and launched specific notifications to enterprises to classify the standards of discrimination in job advertisements.
They also put forward a five-step procedure to deal with ads with gender discrimination.
At first, women's federations should study the ads carefully, then members will communicate with relevant departments, give their suggestions, urge the departments to solve the problem and finally offer feedback to federations.
TWF has strengthened cooperation with many local departments and required them to improve monitoring for job markets so as to avoid discrimination from the start.
TWF members popularized the basic national policy of gender equality and law education to employers. They compiled legal rules leaflets about equal employment to strengthen employers' awareness and integrated legal knowledge about women's rights protection into officials' test systems.
Liu Haiyan, head of the Legal Department of TWF, analyzed the discrimination hiding in job ads and suggested that more adjustments should be made to solve existing problems.
