SCO Children's Art Exhibition Opens in Shanghai

A SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Children's Art Exhibition with the theme "Carrying Forward SCO Culture and Building Shanghai Spirit Together" kicked off in Shanghai on December 4, 2020. The exhibition was held during the 24th Shanghai Art Fair. Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), Vladimir Norov, SCO Secretary-General, Saidzoda Zohir Ozod, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan in China, and diplomats from SCO member states attended.

Norov said SCO's secretariat has long supported the participation of children and youth in creative projects with the purpose of strengthening people's friendship among SCO countries, promoting the spirit of inclusiveness and respecting the diversity of cultures. Saidzoda, from SCO's current presidency country Tajikistan, announced that 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of SCO's establishment and Tajikistan in collaboration with Shanghai Art Fair plans to hold a series of colorful people-to-people exchanges. He expressed Tajikistan's passion and expectation to advance people-to-people exchanges under the SCO framework.

Xia said that Chinese President Xi Jinping called on SCO countries to strengthen people-to-people connectivity and to build a community with a shared future for humanity when attending via video link the 20th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO.

Xia said children represent the hope of countries and the future of mankind. She added organizing a children's art exhibition let children from SCO countries help promote SCO culture, build Shanghai Spirit and act as envoys of friendship and peace to pass people's friendly relations within SCO from generation to generation. "The ACWF is willing to make efforts to enhance people's friendship among SCO countries and contribute its strength in building a community with a shared future for humanity within SCO, and to build a community with a shared future for mankind," Xia said.

More than 200 paintings by children from 18 SCO countries were on display during the exhibition. A children's book fair and a communication event between children and artists were also held. Those events featured the Shanghai Spirit of "mutual trust, mutual respect, equality, respect for diverse civilizations and pursuit of shared development."
