Bairin Left Banner in Chifeng City, North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has made efforts in developing its broom-processing industry as a way out of poverty in recent years.

As a well-known broom processing base and trading market, it's capable of processing and selling 80 million brooms per year, with its products being exported to many countries and regions, including Japan, Republic of Korea and Australia.

The banner, now dubbed "the hometown of kochia scoparia" (a kind of cash crop which can be used to make brooms), maintains a cultivation area of 57,658 acres, and is encouraging surrounding areas of more than 164,736 acres to join the industry.

The banner was removed from the country's list of impoverished county-level regions in March, 2020.
