Educational authorities in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality issued a new policy to provide free training for male students in normal colleges so as to improve the shortage of male teachers.

According to the policy, a quota of 100 will be allocated for male students majoring in preschool education in 2017, based on a free training plan for normal college students.

As required, these male students should have graduated from junior high schools and will accept a five-year college education for free, and will then be allocated to kindergartens as male preschool teachers.

A senior official from Chongqing educational authority said that they will continue the program of free preschool education for normal college students. Moreover, depending on the conditions, the total number of those enrolled will increase from 200 to 400 students for each year in the period of China's 13th Five-Year Plan

The policy also emphasized the need to strengthen the supervision of teachers and those who are in violation of professional ethics will be punished according to the system.
