Eye-catching volleyball
players Feng Kun and Zhao Ruirui have been left off the line-up for the national
women's team, announced by the Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA) on
Wednesday.
Fourteen out of the 18 players who did make the grade will
participate in a training camp run by head coach Chen Zhonghe in Zhangzhou,
Fujian Province. The four reserve players won't participate in the training.
Team skipper Feng Kun and the fragile Zhao Ruirui are likely to withdraw from
the training camp as they are currently pursuing medical treatment in the United
States which will reportedly last until the end of this month.
Veteran player Zhang Yuehong from Liaoning is set to play for the national
women's team again. She quit in the wake of the 2004 Athens Olympics, where
China struggled to re-capture the gold after a 20-year wait.
Zhang's town mate Chu Jinling has also been replaced by Sun Xiaoqing from the
army's team under the Nanjing command. Chu Jinling has reportedly been sent off
the team for not being fit enough in previous matches.
In an interview with China Central Television Station (CCTV), a CVA official
said it's not the final squad for the Beijing Olympics next year, indicating
further changes will be probably made to achieve a perfect lineup.
