Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met with a visiting delegation headed by the Sri Lankan prime minister's wife, Maithree Wickramasinghe, at the federation's headquarters in Beijing on April 7, 2016.

Song welcomed Wickramasinghe for her visit to China. During the talk, she spoke highly of the Sino-Sri Lankan ties and the mutual exchanges between women from the two countries.

Song also introduced the efforts that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government have made in promoting gender equality, especially the achievements that the CPC central committee ,with Xi Jinping being the general secretary, has made in promoting women's development and safeguarding their rights and interests as well as the ACWF's work in the field since the 18th CPC National Congress.

Song stated that with the promotion of the One Belt, One Road initiative, the two sides should further strengthen communication and deepen cooperation in gender equality and women's development, to contribute to consistent development of Sino-Sri Lankan ties.

Wickramasinghe expressed her thanks to Song for her meeting and the vivid introduction. She said she will strive in her efforts to inherit and develop the ties of the two sides, and promote friendly communication between women in the two nations at a higher level.

The Sri Lankan representative is currently visiting China along with her husband, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
