To coincide with International Family Day, after a two-month long search, the 100 'Most Beautiful Families' nationwide were selected. A session to honor these families was held in the Great Hall of the People in Being on May 15.

In this context, "Beautiful" doesn't refer to physical attractiveness, but references instead a beauty of the mind and spirit, with the hope that this internal beauty is reflected onto the wider society.

The selected 100 families are from all levels of society. Some are regular families from rural areas, while some are foreign families who live in China.

Among the selected families, Noyan Ronna and his family are now living in Shanghai; he has lived in China for more than 30 years and actively participated in community activities.

Born in Malaysia, Huang Yuxiang and her husband returned to their ancestral hometown in south China's Hainan Province. After 11 years, they built a successful company together, which helped solve local employment issues.

Military man Mai Jian was severely injured in 1965, leaving him with severe traumatic epilepsy. However, Li Yuzhi married him despite all the social pressure and has been looking after him for 40 years.

Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao, President of the All China Women's Federation (ACWF) Shen Yueyue, Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF Jiao Yang, and Vice President and First Member of Secretariat of the ACWF Song Xiuyan attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Song Xiuyan made a speech, which summed up the previous stage of the project, which involved looking for "the most beautiful families". Shen Yueyue and Li Yuanchao gave awards to the 100 families.

Song Xiuyan said this campaign is based on grassroots people and is building a platform to encourage people to tell their own stories and look for model families. During the campaign, netizens posted more than 13,300 photos.

This campaign gained massive media attention, and women's federations across China have started searching for the 'Most Beautiful Families' by promoting the campaign in various ways.

The promotion was in line with a video and telephone conference held by the ACWF in Beijing on February 24, 2014, during which the campaign to find the 'Most Beautiful Families' was officially launched across the country.

The campaign was launched after remarks made by Chinese President Xi Jinping while he met with the newly elected ACWF leadership, with the aim of implementing key points of the 11th National Women's Congress held in late October last year.
