Taobao Enters Domestic Service Market

China's leading e-commerce platform Taobao's mobile app launched a domestic services platform - connecting customers and domestic service providers on March 25.[baidu.com]

China's leading e-commerce platform Taobao's mobile app launched a domestic services platform - connecting customers and domestic service providers on March 25.

This new function is called home life, and it will first cover Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and another 15 cities, and currently has 70,000 regular housekeeping staff or "Ayi" ("Auntie") assigned to the platform. Home life will be funded by Alipay (China's equivalent of PayPal) with secured transaction services for buyers and sellers through its guaranteed accounts, to ensure security and to prevent fraud. Similar to other Taobao businesses, users can grade the housekeeping services afterwards.

All the companies which provide domestic services for the home life platform have paid Taobao a consumer protection deposit of 50,000 yuan (U.S. $8045).
