The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) recently issued a circular deciding to launch a campaign to search for the 'most beautiful families' nationwide from February to mid-May 2014.

The campaign will be launched to implement the key points of the 11th National Women's Congress held in November last year, and the remarks made by Chinese President Xi Jinping while he met with the newly elected ACWF leadership.

The ACWF will cooperate with the China Central Television (CCTV) and the Information Office of the State Council to search for the 'most beautiful familites' through both traditional media and the Internet. An official website and microblog account where netizens can vote for the candidates will also be launched to promote the campaign among the public. Women's federations at all levels are also encouraged to recommend candidates to the ACWF.

The final results will be released on May 15, 2014, the annual International Family Day.

According to the circular, women's federations nationwide should also explore creative ways to attract the public's participation. The introductions, photos and videos of the candidate families will be announced publicly on local websites launched for the campaign and promotion activities such as lectures and exhibitions. Seminars will be held in Women's Homes, local communities, government departments, companies and colleges.

The campaign is an upgrade version of the national selection of the 'Five-good Civilized Families.'

Since the 1950s, women's federations across China have been conducting the competition, which is known as 'Five-good Families.' In 1996, the ACWF, along with the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and 18 other ministries and committees, launched the 'Five-good Civilized Families' program.

Some of the objectives of the program include improving the qualities of family members, raising their living standards, and promoting the civilization of urban and rural areas. It also actively advocates respect for the elderly and care for the young, equality between men and women, industrious and thrifty management, harmonious family life and neighborly unity.

The program has played a positive role in promoting economic development and safeguarding social stability. The main content includes enlivening domestic cultural life, popularizing legal knowledge, eliminating feudal superstitions and backward customs, and promoting harmonious relationships among neighbors.
