Research on the Quality of Rural Women and Media in China

It has been an established fact that rural people and women in China are two social groups that have little sway over the media. What about rural women and their access to the media? The study garners samples from People's Daily (from 1979 to 2005), a leading newspaper in China with authoritative information and mainstream culture, which meet the information need of civil society. With references to both rural men and urban women, and by studying the difference as to how the two genders are portrayed in media reports, this study attempts to reveal how rural women are portrayed in the media.
