A book named Beautiful Play: Shanghai Cheongsam Bloom Milan Expo on the history of the Shanghai-style Cheongsam, a famous local variation of the stylish body-hugging one-piece Chinese dress for women, launched recently at Shanghai Exhibition Center.

The book was produced for the Milan World Expo, at which there was a large-scale display of the outfits, which provoked great reviews and attention from foreign audiences.

The book documents the journey of the dress through to its landmark presentation in Italy, and seeks to record a series of activities held by the Shanghai Cheongsam Culture Promotion Association, in which more than 500 models have participated.

At the event, these activities were collectively praised by Shanghai's government as "a successful example of citizen diplomacy."
