Qian Yinzhi, vice-president of Hubei Women's Federation, central China, along with other organizers, held an event to show support for women who are suffering from cervical and breast cancers in the remote Dabie Mountain area, on March 16.
Qian delivered a speech and expressed her condolences to women who have been affected by the condition. She called on them to better understand screening methods and actively seek treatment.
In order to establish an effective work mechanism for treating the disease, Qian called on the local women's federations to hold an informal meeting and discuss follow-up work.
One organizer said they have already conducted a survey to find out how many women have the disease, to better ensure individuals can receive timely medical treatment.
During the event, organizers also gave lectures on prevention and treatment to local attendees from the community.
The professor of the local hospital gave some valuable advice and offered them professional consultation services.
More than 16 local women including Tian Shengmei, have received 10,000 yuan (U.S.$ 1,500) from the federation's charity fund. Tian, expressed her sincere thanks to the organizers, and also said she could have the courage and confidence to combat the disease thanks to their help.
Qian hoped that more social resources could be mobilized to help women in need, and she also hoped women could develop healthy habits and enhance their consciousness about health issues, to make a contribution to rural development.
