In order to further promote and implement breastfeeding for babies up to 6 months old, and improve the rate of breastfeeding and maternal infant health, Hubei Working Committee Office on Children and Women, along with Hubei Trade Unions of Health and Hubei Family Planning Commission, formally launched the "Breastfeeding Support" pilot project on May 19.

Meanwhile, the Wuhan Working Committee Office on Children and Women held a breastfeeding consultation activity in the provincial capital Wuhan as part of the pilot project.

At the launch ceremony, female workers from eight work-units were granted a "Love Package of Breastfeeding", experts from provincial MCH taught breastfeeding knowledge, and Wuhan YOU Love Breastfeeding Support Center organized a sharing saloon for pregnant female workers and breastfeeding mothers.

Around 100 people, including cadres, organizers, female workers and media reporters attended the ceremony.

May 20 is the 25th Breastfeeding Awareness Day in China. In order to successfully promote breastfeeding, all of society needs to be made aware of its value and meaning. To improve breastfeeding rates for infants up to six months is not only strongly advocated by the World Health Organization, but is also an important strategy for the Chinese government in its attempts to improve the health of mothers and children, and thus all of society.
