South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will allocate 12 million yuan (U.S.$ 1.74 million) in its budget this year to support the operation of women and children's programs, an increase of 20 percent from that of 2016, according to the Guangxi Department of Finance in an announcement on May 2.

As a member of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee on Children and Women, Guangxi Department of Finance is responsible for the release of abundant capital for the programs related to women and children's interests and for ensuring the efficiency of its utilization, said the department.

Amongst the allocated capital, 6.387 million yuan (U.S.$ 925,611.9) is expected to be used for the construction of women & children's activity institutes and vocational training centers for women, the organization of open classes with an emphasis upon family civilization and education, and the implementation of the Programs for Women and Children's Development at municipal and county-level.

Meanwhile, the rest of the allocated capital will be kept by Guangxi Women's Federation to finance the training and assistance of the underprivileged, support the construction of new media and women-centered social organizations, and to increase local women's legal knowledge and their contributions to social harmony.

Moreover, Guangxi Department of Finance will further beef up its efforts to support the construction of cultural and medical institutes in economically underdeveloped counties, and increase local women and children's access to free medical check-ups against common diseases.

In addition to raising more capital for the programs in connection with women and children's interests, local departments of finance are urged to make a better supervision over the utilization of financial allocation.
