The women's federation in Nanning, capital city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has introduced a host of measures to help poverty-stricken women improve their life circumstances and find suitable employment or set up independent business ventures in recent years.

Nanning Women's Federation has proactively mobilized representatives of female entrepreneurs, technicians, farmers and others to help underprivileged women develop large-scale agricultural businesses. For instance, local female entrepreneurs raised a fund worth 200,000 yuan (U.S.$ 29158.76) to help poverty-stricken residents at Xinle Village, which had formed a partnership with Nanning Women's Federation in its poverty relief, plant edible fungus. So far, the business of edible fungus at the village has operated smoothly, and its plantation totals over 6,000 square meters.

Meanwhile, it has registered a brand of women's handicraft products and constructed a women and children's activity center, with the aim of further promoting the popularity of handmade products by women of the Zhuang ethnic minority, enlarging their market share and providing more target women with employment.

Thanks to the efforts made by Nanning Women's Federation, local governments this year allocated 4.98 million yuan (U.S.$ 726,127.46) in budget to train about 5,000 female rural migrants in terms of handmade crafts, housekeeping services, traditional cooking and business startups. In addition, it has sponsored more than 120 job fairs and provided free consultation for 270,000 female job seekers so far.

Furthermore, the women's federation has worked with other government departments and financial institutes to release 105 loans, which total 8.4 million yuan (U.S.$ 699,871.69), in the work on poverty alleviation amongst poverty-stricken women.
