Hu Mingrong, 54, secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangxinyuan Community in Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei Province, has been dedicating herself to improving the livelihood of her fellow villagers over the past 17 years.
Under Hu's leadership, Party members of the community established the Gaolong Intangible Cultural Heritage Park and helped its residents transfer successfully from farmers to workers in the process of urbanization.
Jiangxinyuan used to be a fishing village. In 2009, land was redistributed and it was constructed into a residential community. In the beginning, local villagers were unable to adjust themselves to the shift, many still raised chickens or grew vegetables in the community.
In 2012, the Community Party Committee of Jiangxinyuan was founded. After Hu was appointed as its secretary, she emphasized that the committee should not only guide its people but serve them wholeheartedly. The committee has since stuck to the principal of letting people propose, discuss, decide and comment on the major issues of their community.
Hu also kept the finance and affairs of the Party Committee and the Neighborhood Committee transparent and set up public accounts on new media platforms to make it more convenient for residents to report their problems.
In addition, Hu called on Party members to lead innovation, promote employment and guide people to achieve prosperity. They built up the Gaolong Intangible Cultural Heritage Park in their community, where major national and provincial projects including Han embroidery (featuring rich and gaudy color, bold patterns and exaggerated techniques), woodcarving, paper cutting and Huangmei hand-stitching work reside. Its products are sold abroad via the internet.
Party members made use of their advantages and arranged villagers to work in community enterprises. Villagers' insurance, medical expenses and pension are all covered by the community collectively.
Due to its great contribution to the well-being of local people, the Party Committee of Jiangxinyuan Community has been awarded as one of the 11 National Outstanding Grassroots Party Committees at the ceremony marking the 95th birthday of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on July 1.
Hu attended the ceremony and received the prize on behalf of all the committee's Party members. She told China Women's News that the honor was an acknowledgement of their work, and meanwhile it also means more responsibilities.
"Party committee is the backbone of the people," Hu said. "We will put people first and turn the committee into their second home."
