Shen Yueyue, president of All-China Women's Federation, met many foreign delegates and UN representatives during the international W20 meeting, held in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on May 25.
Shen, who also serves as vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress, welcomed Maite Nkoana-Mashabene, minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, among others.
During the meeting, Shen spoke highly of the developments between the two countries and how efforts have been made together in promoting women's development. Shen stated that the federation will strengthen women's cooperation with South Africa in the future to improve gender equality.
In turn, Mashabane said they will develop ties between the two sides, enhance communication and promote the friendly relationship of women in two nations at a higher level.
When meeting with the Laos delegation, Shen introduced the efforts that Chinese governments have made in promoting women's working abilities and helping them eliminate poverty during the country's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) and the process of comprehensively building a well-off society.
Shen said the nations should further enhance communication and deepen cooperation to share the opportunities and achievements of women's development. Inlavanh Keobounphanh, president of Laos Women's Federation introduced women's participation in Laos' politics and the work schemes of the local women's federation during the talk.
Talking with the Indonesian delegation, Shen expressed her recognition of women's communication between the two counties. She presented the actions that the Communist Party of China and governments have made in improving gender equality and introduced ACWF’s work to them as well.
Shen stated that with the promotion of the Maritime Silk Road initiative, the two sides should learn from each other, exchange experiences in driving gender equality and make contributions for the progress of women.
Shen also shared the views of W20 and women's development with UN officials.
She expressed her thanks to the participation of UN Women and pointed that as the host state of 2016 G20 summit, China is pushing the awareness of gender into G20 cooperation and it is hoped that the W20 meeting will have an active impact on the field.
Shen and Lakshimi Puri, UN assistant secretary-general and deputy executive director of UN Women reached a consensus to strength the cooperation and enhance the advancement of women across the world.
