Bestselling writer Zhou Xiaofeng recently took part in an activity in the city of Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, to share the inspiration for writing her new book Be Like a Migratory Bird.
Zhou said the book collects over 10 of her essays created in the last two years.
When a reader asked Zhou about how the title of the book came about, Zhou said she hopes to express a feeling to "return to one's original nature".
The book includes chapters on sexual assault and domestic violence, and different social problems which are related to gender.
Zhou said that a woman's sensitivity is particularly needed in literary creation and she thus is interested in writing topics about women's growth.
When asked why she has written so much about the dark side of human nature, Zhou quoted the words of an American novelist: "Only light makes us see the darkness."
"I can identify the dark because there is more light in my heart and I can write more candidly," Zhou concluded.
