Li Xiaolin, the daughter of China's ex-premier Li Peng, is the chief executive of China Power International Development. In the eyes of others, she is both attractive and fortunate, yet she has maintained such a low profile that not many people know about her true identity.
Li Xiaolin could be called the number one woman in the electricity industry, as the chief executive of China Power International Development, and being the daughter of former premier Li Peng at the same time. She is the only woman CEO representing a company listed in Hong Kong's H shares and red chips markets.
Keen Follower of Fashion
Li Xiaolin's office in Hong Kong is of a mixture of Chinese and Western styles, designed by herself. She is also a keen follower of fashion and is fond of fine dresses. In her opinion, being beautiful is equally as important as being successful in her career.
It is generally believed that sons and daughters of some senior Chinese leaders are promoted because of their family backgrounds, not because of their personal abilities. However, people who know Li Xiaolin believe that Li would have been more successful in her career without having a famous and powerful father.
After graduation from Tsinghua University, Lin Xiaolin worked as a teacher in the Electricity Technology College, a technician and engineer. Later, she became the head of an international trade office within the Chinese Electricity Ministry. In 1994, Li Xiaolin was put in charge of the preparation and construction of China Power International Development, which was registered and based in Hong Kong. After two years' effort, the company was finally up and running; Li Xiaolin was appointed its assistant general manager.
Although people often view Li in a favourable light, because of her family background, Li Xiaolin never uses it to her advantage. In her opinion, her father's achievements belong to himself. Though she feels proud of him, she would not want to depend on him. She believes that she has achieved what she has through her own efforts.
Like Father, Like Daughter
Speaking of her father, Li Xiaolin says with respect, "My father takes his work very seriously. Dedicating himself to our country is his whole life pursuit." She continued, "He never made me to follow his suit, but I have been greatly influenced by him and have learned a lot from his example. "
As a child, Li Xiaolin was a naughty girl. She liked to joke with her father although she was sure to fail. Her father used to check her homework, which made her scared even when she talks about it now.
In addition, she inherited the good habit from her father of keeping a diary everyday. Her work notes and media interviews have been compiled into books, and she feels proud of them and often reads them.
Li Xiaolin didn't come into the public eye until China Power International Development was listed on the stock market in 2004, even though she had worked for the company for ten years by then.
Li Xiaolin also likes to meditate before going to sleep, she thinks it a good way to relax herself. She says, "When sitting alone and silent, I view my inner self and think of ways to solve problems I have."
Li Xiaolin often speaks of being grateful, she thinks it very important to express gratitude to others. Being the daughter of the ex-premier and the CEO of China Power International Development, Li Xiaolin says, "I have many people that I should be thankful for for what I have achieved today."
