A Russian woman has made contributions toward cultural exchange between China and Russia for the past year by teaching her native language to students in northeast China's Jilin Province.

The woman, named Tanya, teaches Russian at a senior high school in Hunchun, in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin.

She shares Russian culture and history with students in her classes and likes to spark their interest during teaching, she says.

During the past year, Tanya and her students have become good friends. On Chinese Teacher's Day (September 10), she received many gifts, her first such experience in the country.

With the continuous deepening of China-Russia relations, many students study Russian to prepare for going to study overseas, or to prepare for future work on China-Russian trade and tourism.

Tanya says she has fallen in love with life in China. She enjoys local foods such as spicy hotpot and she has become accustomed to using mobile payments for online shopping and delivery services.

"Here there are many people who can speak Russian and they are kind to me. I feel happy living here," Tanya says.

As she often posts pictures of her life on social network sites, her friends overseas regularly ask her questions.

"For many Russians, China is mysterious, so I often invite them to visit," Tanya said.

Tanya regards herself as a bridge to connect China and Russia. However, she thinks that she is "only a little bridge and more big bridges need to be set up."
