A 67-year-old retired doctor Wang Luji has donated a two-story building to establish a nursing home for the elderly in east China's Zhejiang province.

Wang Luji herself cooks and takes care of the elderly people who live in her nursing home. She works a grueling schedule, from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, but says the work of caring elderly patients was very rewarding.

Named the "Home of Benevolence", Wang wants her elderly patients to feel at home at her new nursing home. Many of her patients had lived alone earlier.

Wang Luji says that as a doctor, she particularly understood the pain and hardship of elderly people, especially those living alone and trying to support themselves on a low income.

Since it opened in September 2009, the nursing home has received 65 elderly people, with 12 people living there at present.

Wang says in addition to the financial support from her husband and children, many others have also helped her to establish and run the nursing home. She says this generosity has encouraged her to carry on her work despite the many challenges she has faced.
