A famous paper-cutting expert in her 80s recently spent over a month crafting a series of 42 works to celebrate the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The works were shown recently at an exhibition in a village of Binhai New Area in north China's Tianjin Municipality.
A Party member herself, Zhang Peihua said in a recent interview: "The congress is a major event for the Party. I want to show the country's splendid achievements over the past five years under the leadership of the Party through my work."
All of her paper cuttings are original and feature their own theme, content and pattern. "I hope to express my best wishes to the motherland and expectations for a beautiful life in the future by virtue of these festive artworks."
As a resident of Binhai New Area, Zhang developed an interest in the art form during her childhood. Her passion has never faded over the years. In her view, the traditional craft of paper cutting should be inherited and carried forward.
Since she established her first folk paper-cutting art team in 1996, she has led other team members to participate in such public welfare events.
"There are over 30 members in my team now. At the beginning there were just three or four. During holidays and festivals as well as the country's major events, we together conceive some themes and enjoy ourselves in the course of creation."
