Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), encouraged women to play bigger roles in women's entrepreneurship during her tour of northeast China's Jilin Province from March 31-April 3.

Song, who also serves as vice-director of National Working Committee on Women and Children under the State Council, visited communities and villages in the cities of Changchun and Songyuan, during which she talked to grass-roots women's federations' officials and local female citizens.

During her visit to an e-commerce entrepreneurship training base called Jilin Net Sister, the first stop of her tour, Song talked to one of the trainees, learning about the profits and prospects for her online store and the difficulties she faced. Song asked her what was the most important thing in the management of an online store, and when she got the reply that it was honesty, she said gladly, "Yes, you are quite right. Only by being honest can you broaden the influence of your brand and attract more buyers."

At the event, Song toured an exhibition hall for women's handicrafts, where she was interested in the delicate straw objects on display. "Turning waste into treasure and devotion to society is our company's slogan," said Li Xiulan, general manager of the Qingyue Straw Weaving Company in Yushu City, adding that she created the business model of cooperation between the company, cooperatives and farmers, to promote the development of the straw weaving industry. Hearing about this, Song said excitedly, "The straw weaving industry not only promotes the transformation and process of crop straws and reduces environmental pollution brought by burning straw, but also promotes rural women's flexible employment and increases their incomes, so it contributes a lot to rural economic development."

Afterwards, Song visited the women's activity center (literally called 'Women's Home') in Lujia Village in Shuangyang District in the city of Changchun, where she praised the local women's organization's efforts in meeting the needs of women and children.

Song then visited an agricultural science and technology company in Yinjia Village in the same district, where she talked with female college graduates about their stories of starting their own careers after graduating from college.

During her tour in the city of Songyuan, Song visited the intermediate people's court, where she learned about the situation of safeguarding women and children's rights and interests. She urged the court and the women's federation to hold more communication activities between each other and produce more publicity of legal issues among the local population. She also visited a community and a maternity hospital in Qianguo County and a village in Ningjiang District.

At a symposium held in Changchun on March 31, Song listened to the reports delivered by Gu Chunli, director of the Jilin Provincial Working Committee on Women and Children and expressed her thanks to the Jilin provincial Party committee and government for their efforts and achievements in women and children causes. She also said that the Jilin Net Sister online business platform established by the Jilin Women's Federation has helped women realize their dreams of starting their own careers and benefited a lot of individuals. She hoped that the women's federations at different levels in the province could speed up their discovery, make new achievements and take new roads, to add momentum to the women's cause nationwide.

Furthermore, Song noted that women's federations should play their peculiar roles and deepen reform and innovation in the strategic layout of the "Four Comprehensives," a concept which was put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in February 2015.

The "Four Comprehensives" is a term that comes from the suggestion to "build a moderately prosperous society, deepen reform, govern the nation according to law, and strictly govern the Party on a deeply comprehensive level." The political theory was issued in an effort to build stronger leadership and better govern the country.

Song said that women's federations should set up the concept of regarding women and the general population as the foundation and try their best to meet their needs. They should also perform their basic roles, safeguard women's legal rights and interests, and promote women's entrepreneurship and employment.
