Local authorities in East China's Jiangxi Province recently announced a collection of women-oriented activities to mark the 23rd World Book and Copyright Day (April 23) and promote the popularity of universal reading.
The Information Office of Jiangxi People's Government and Jiangxi Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and TV made the joint announcement at a press conference held in Nanchang on April 9.
As part of the program, Jiangxi Women's Federation will work with the Administration to unveil a group of outstanding books by female writers, select model families out of millions of households in the observance of reading, and recommend a list of high-quality literary works to local women
They will also hold a writing contest in the commemoration of 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.
Meanwhile, a local subway operator has set up 24 electronic reading machines along one line to better meet the public's demands for online reading. Statistics indicate that the service has already been used by over 4.75 million visitors ever since its inauguration in April last year.
