Maslenitsa, also known as Pancake Week, is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday. It is celebrated during the whole of the eighth week before Easter, and is widely considered a fitting occasion to highlight and promote Russian traditions.
Corresponding with this year's Maslenitsa (February 17-26), the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing hosted an event on the evening of February 28, where Chinese people were invited from the media, high schools and institutions for international exchange, to experience a range of seasonal celebrations.
Participants tasted pancakes, snacks and drinks made by the organizers, participated in dances and games performed by Russian children and folk artists, and watched craftsmen demonstrating the making of various kinds of handicrafts.
