Yu Housen, director and spokesperson of the general office of the Supreme People's Court, said China's courts had helped to safeguard human rights and protect family harmony and stability.
The courts cut and waived legal costs of about 13 billion yuan (US$ 2.08 billion) for poverty-stricken parties since 2008 and had released assistance of about 230 million yuan (US$ 36.8 million) to criminal victims from 2009-2011.
In addition, the courts have in that time set up efforts to fight against serious food and drug safety accidents. During the past five years, 732 cases of production and sale of toxic and harmful food were concluded, and 947 criminals were punished by the law.
"The effect of administration of justice can only be seen from the completed cases," said Yu.
In terms of enforcement difficulties in judicial practice, Yu said the ratio of case enforcement in 2011 reached 77.83 percent, increasing 5.33 percent compared to 2010, with the launch of special cleaning-up activities.
