To applaud the efficiency of the first case of gender discrimination heard by a court in east China's Zhejiang Province, which wrapped up within a month, college students from Beijing, Hangzhou and nine other cities respectively sent open letters with a lightning logo to the Supreme People's Court, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Hangzhou West Lake District People's Court on the morning of August 20.

They also hope through this typical case a precedent can be set to facilitate other cases related to gender discrimination in employment.

In June of 2014, college graduate Huang Rong was rejected by a training institution on the grounds that only male applicants were accepted for the position she applied for. With the help of lawyers, Huang sued the institution in the Hangzhou West Lake District People's Court on July 8, and the case was successfully filed on August 12.

Yi Han, a college girl from Xi'an, capital city of northwest China's Shannxi Province, told reporters, “We sent the open letters with a lightning logo to appreciate the efficiency of relevant department in taking legal proceedings against gender discrimination. Compared with China's first employment gender discrimination case two years ago which took one year to dispose, it only spent one month for the case of Huang Rong filing a lawsuit.

Another participant Li Maizi said that they sent letters to the relevant departments to express their wish that gender discrimination in employment is no longer seen as a difficult case. Li added that they also hope women's federations can play a role in pushing forward gender equality in employment.
