Officials of Jilin Women's Federation (JWF) in northeast China and members of Jilin Province Association of Female Entrepreneurs, Jilin Province Association of Female Artists and Jilin Province Association of Female Calligraphers organized a charity activity in Anqing Village on September 18 to promote the national poverty alleviation campaign.

During the activity, a women and children's activity center became operational with financial support from the association of female entrepreneurs. JWF President Li Xiaoying, also secretary of the Party Leadership Group of JWF, and Li Dongqi, president of the female entrepreneurs association, attended the opening ceremony.

"Since 2016, JWF has been working to promote the national poverty alleviation campaign in Anqing," Li said. "We drummed up nearly seven million yuan to strengthen infrastructure construction including building roads, completing drinking water projects, upgrading toilet facilities, and improving environment."

"We also launched poverty alleviation projects, led villagers to develop the garden economy, planting and breeding industries, e-commerce, and hand knitting industry, and provided financial support and free physical checkups to impoverished women," she added.

According to Li, 85 percent of low-income families in the village have escaped poverty so far.

"JWF also attaches great importance to improving people's morality. It organized a series of activities including Looking for the Most Beautiful Families and Creating Beautiful and Clean Homes to stimulate people's passion and provide impetus for seeking a better life," Li said.

She also urged officials in the village to make full use of the center and build it into a platform for popularizing science and practical skills.

Li then paid a special visit to the home of an impoverished senior and chatted with him.

"I would like to thank the Party and the government for their people-oriented policies. Now my life is becoming much better," said the elderly.

In a move to guarantee impoverished children's rights to education, JWF allocated 93,500 yuan to fund the tuition of 88 students.

Zhongtuo Tonglin Landscape Construction Co., Ltd. and Changchun Yizhi Parent-Child Garden donated nearly 30,000 yuan to purchase dustbins for 202 households in the village in an effort to create a clean environment.
