Under the witness of representatives from journalism circles in Beijing, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) Zhang Jianmin represented the charity organization to receive a donation valued at 100,000RMB (U.S.$15,200) from Luo Hailei at a ceremony held in the capital city on January 19.
Luo Hailei's father is the late Luo Fu (1921-2014), who was a well-known writer and editor-in-chief in south China's Hong Kong. He held key posts at Ta Kung Pao, New Evening Post and several other local magazines, whilst also producing reams of academic writing in his lifetime. Meanwhile, he played an important role in the success of Louis Cha and Liang Yusheng (1924-2009), two famous writers in modern China.
At the event, Luo Hailei said the donation would be used mainly to finance charity activities related to journalism in accordance with his father's will and added that his father's collection of books were scheduled to be donated to libraries in Guilin City in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where he was born.
Meanwhile, his father's diaries and letters would also be published this year to help the public learn more about his life and his work.
