The women's federation of north China's Tianjin Municipality recently organized a volunteer scheme to better serve the 13th National Games of the People's Republic of China (13th National Games), which takes place from August 27-September 8.
According to Dai Yun, president and secretary of the Party committee of Tianjin Women's Federation, training women volunteers and assisting the government to make full preparation for the campaign were the key emphasis of their work this year.
In order to maintain a good urban transport environment during the event, they have since April issued an activity report to spread traffic etiquette, launched a series of forums to lead women to participate in managing traffic and carried out a training session to enhance volunteers' skills on traffic supervision.
The Federation trained over 200 women leaders during the first half of 2017 and the trainees went on duty in early June, trying to correct uncivilized traffic behavior.
The women's federations of districts across the city also publicized volunteer work reports through their official online platforms to evoke public awareness. Till now, thousands of women are directly involved in the work.
In addition, the federation and Tianjin Traffic Management Bureau also carried out an event for families and children to learn about civilized traffic practices.
"We hope that such activities can lead the public to follow good behaviors such as waiting patiently at zebra crossings. Every motorist can make contributions to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and improve the urban civilized transport system," an official stated.
Apart from the voluntary training, the federation has initiated many parallel competitions, including an aerobic dance competition to show local women's sport spirits and a vocational skills game to encourage women in different industries to provide first-class services for the National Games.
Furthermore, Dai also stressed the importance of woman pace-setters and leaders' roles in advocating the Games' spirit, implementing preparatory works and improving citizens' civilization consciousness.
