The China Family Education Society (CFES) held its annual academic conference on the theme "theoretical innovation in and practical development of Chinese family education since reform and opening-up," on November 27 in Beijing.
The event aimed to teach attendees about the important instructions given by President Xi Jinping on family education and review the development and remarkable achievements in family education made in the country over the past 40 years.
Chen Xiurong, President of CFES, hosted the meeting.
Those present at the gathering included Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Cai Shumin, Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF; and, Zhao Donghua, a member of the Standing Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Executive Deputy President of CFES.

Her talk highlighted the significance of acting under the guidance of President Xi's important addresses on family.
Since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy in 1978 and the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, held in 2012, the endeavors of the Party and the country in all areas including family education have led to remarkable improvements under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi at its core.
Participants at the conference were encouraged to learn from the important speeches on family education made by President Xi according to the overall situation of the Party and country to promote creative development in family education.
In addition, Shen said it was necessary for officials to incorporate moral education into the overall process of family education. Moral education should focus on helping children develop good ideas and habits and nurture and observe core socialist values. The fundamental goal of family education is to foster a new generation capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation.
Shen said all attendees should study the rich implications, main ideas and practical value of Xi's speeches and study the specific content on moral education in family education, the criteria for measuring moral education and the requirements for practicing moral education.
She also stressed the importance of studying parents' responsibility, necessary knowledge and behavior in conducting moral education.
Based on the topic, Shen urged to produce a series of books and practical manuals for parents to strengthen moral education for children with standard, healthy and positive content.
In addition, effective carriers, bases for practice, exemplary projects and distinctive activities of moral education are set to be developed to facilitate moral education in each family.
Shen said it is necessary to respond to parents' new expectations and requirements by analyzing their problems with the support from different sides and by consulting with a think tank comprised of experts and scholars.
She encouraged innovation in family education instruction methods. New technologies and platforms combining the internet and family education should be utilized to solve new problems in family education and offer more support.
She expected CFES to better serve families and society and make new contributions to society at a new starting point.
Shen urged women's organizations at all levels to strengthen their support to CFES.
At the conference, attendees also discussed the significant status of family education in fostering virtue, nurturing and practicing core socialist values and cultivating a new generation capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation.
Moreover, two professors presented their research results at the conference.
Lu Shizhen, professor of China Youth University of Political Studies, delivered the Study on the Implications and Practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Family Education with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era.
Zhao Zhongxin, professor of Beijing Normal University, delivered the Study on the Fundamental Theory of Family Education with Chinese Characteristics.
Leaders present at the conference later gave certificates of merit to researchers who have made outstanding achievements in their fields.
