A floral embroidery titled Fragrance of Magnolia by Chinese craftswoman Yao Jianping together with another 200 experts recently captured widespread attention after it was on display at China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
The outstanding exhibit is one of the largest embroideries ever attempted and features a plethora of complicated needlework.
According to Yao, it embodies the unity and wisdom of artists and craftsmen in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu province, demonstrating the inheritance of their craftsmanship and the spirit of the city's culture.
Suzhuo-style embroiderers are world famous for their talent and the high levels of skill. The art is enshrined in the list of the national intangible cultural heritages.
Among the hundreds of thousands of woven embroideries housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing, half are from Suzhou, according to experts.
